Take Back America: Can you Trump this?

In the U.S. we have many people enthusiastically supporting Donald Trump for president. The Donald claims that he will make America great again.

"This is a movement," said Trump, who often speaks about himself in campaign appearances. "I don't want it to be about me. This is about common sense. It's about doing the right thing."

The right thing for The Donald is turning the coming presidential into a reality show. Like the Apprentice, what we have is pure theater, i.e. Entertainment. With this, The Donald has mastered 50 percent of what is needed to be a successful politician.

This is the lesson that came from the collapse of the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Dictatorship. The successful political formula was spelled out by of the Roman poet Juvenal in about A.D. 100 in his Satura X:

Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions - - everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses.
We wait with baited breath to learn how The Donald will deal with the other half of the political formula for success; The Bread. After 2000 years we are a little more sophisticated and so our Circuses are high tech and The Donald plays himself in the circus, just like a Roman Emperor. Similarly The Bread must be appropriate for our time. Maybe the following points distilled from The Donald's website position on immigration will give us a clue:
  • Requirement to hire American workers first

  • End welfare abuse

  • Jobs program for inner city youth

  • Refugee program for American children.
The Donald is not quite there yet but one can see he is off to a good start; the campaign is still young. One thing is clear, no immigrants need apply.
